NATO StratCom COE invited leading experts to discuss the dynamics of the Asian information environment and larger effects of the Asian disinformation ecosystem on an international level. Rajaratnam School of International Studies), Dr Jacob Wallis (Australian Strategy Policy Institute).
Asia is currently undergoing a digital transformation, with smartphones usage, internet connectivity and online news consumption rapidly developing. While new digital technologies provide ample opportunities for development, the region has also seen significant decline in media freedom in many countries, and disinformation and manipulation of online infrastructure have become entrenched challenges.
During the webinar, Prof. Jonathan Corpus Ong will also present the findings of a new and exciting NATO Stratcom COE study titled “Mitigating Disinformation in Southeast Asian Elections:
Lessons from Indonesia, the Philippines, and Thailand” which is soon to be released.
