1. “History & Cyber Repeats Itself: Securing the National Critical Infrastructure”
Abstract: Do we as a cyber-community learn from the past? Have we looked into the major historical cyber-attacks, and been able to understand the key shortfalls? More importantly, did we gear up to defend ourselves from a repeat attack? Are we doing enough to defend the critical national infrastructure, and to ensure we do not repeat the mistakes of the past? This presentation examines a few case studies, deep dives into how these incidents unfolded, and considers what should have been done to put in place better defences.
Speaker: Kunal Sehgal
Kunal Sehgal is currently Director for Cyber Resilience with a major international financial institution in Singapore, former Managing Director, OT-ISAC and former Executive Director, Financial Services ISAC (FS-ISAC APAC). He has 16 professional certifications and formal qualifications to his name, has co-authored a whitepaper on WPA3 protocols, and is the official reviewer of five published books on cybersecurity. He has been professionally engaged in the cybersecurity field for close to 15 years, and his work has taken him across multiple geographical locations, including Canada, India, and Singapore. With his wealth of experience coupled with his personal interest in being a security evangelist, he keeps up-to-date with developments in the cyber domain and its threat landscape, and is a blogger and a regular guest speaker at security communities and forums around the Asia Pacific.
2. “Information Sharing: The Keystone of Enterprise Security”
Abstract: Threat actors continue to raise the bar on the sophistication and velocity of their cyber-attacks. According to cyber risk frameworks such as NIST created in the United States, defense-in-depth strategies should include an effective information sharing capability.
In this session, Mr. Nelson will describe how the Global Resilience Federation (GRF), a nonprofit corporation, has developed an information sharing construct that enables government and the private sector to share cyber threat, vulnerability and incident data in a trusted environment, and a collective defense for thousands of organizations in nine different industry sectors. He will also discuss how GRF has expanded its global footprint into Asia with the advent of the Operational Technology (OT) ISAC based in Singapore and outline plans for supporting future communities.
Speaker: William B. Nelson
Bill Nelson is the Chair and CEO of the Global Resilience Federation (GRF) and is based in the US. GRF is a non-profit association dedicated to help ensure the resilience and continuity of vital infrastructure and individual organizations against threats, incidents and vulnerabities. GRF is comprised of nine information sharing organizations from various industries.
Before joining the GRF in 2019, Mr. Nelson was the President and CEO of the Financial Services Information Sharing & Analysis Center (FS-ISAC) from 2006-2018. While at FS-ISAC, he grew the membership from under 200 to over 7,000 organizations in 50 countries. He was Executive Vice President of NACHA, The Electronic Payments Association from 1988 to 2006.
Mr. Nelson has served on many boards of directors and is a sought-after speaker on cyber security, information sharing, risk and business resilience. He has received numerous awards including the prestigious RSA Award for Excellence in Information Security and the FS-ISAC Critical Infrastructure Protection award.
